Lorna Kalimashe Before Fashion

I thought I'd go back into time and show you guys some of the feature articles I did when I worked in the editorial department as a writer. Lol I say that like it was ages ago - These date back from 2012, not that long ago ne? You'll see my name on the sub header, which is what we call the 'blurb' or on the gutter credits, that is the small text on the right hand side of each page, basically where the page folds is, in the magazine. You should actually have a look at the gutter credits the next time you read a magazine, it's interesting to see who are the popular names in the industry. Happy reading!

Is anybody out there?

Hi friends

I've been very quiet I know, I guess sometimes it's a little difficult to share anything cause I'm not sure if anyone is interested in what I have to say or even knows if my blog even exists. Three blogs signed up and deleted and I'm on my fourth one, which has lasted a lot longer than just two months but I still have no followers perhaps there is something I'm doing wrong, please fellow bloggers, if you're out there and are reading this, then please - help a girl out. When I created this blog the aim was to share my interests and basically an insight into what I do everyday during work hours, I kinda feel like I have not really showcased what I do from 9-5 which is ironic because that's the main theme centered around the blog (sigh).

I see and follow countless blogs, and their posts always seem so effortless like' hey look what I came across today' and I think why couldn't I have found that and blogged about it, and have people see it in my blog - the frustration, my word! Maybe I'm not cool enough to have a blog, I mean if you have nothing cool to say then maybe you're not cool, right? Or maybe not - Am I being too hard on myself? Is it even normal to have had a blog for this long and still no followers? I wish blogging was like twitter or instagram where I could just search for people to follow and have them follow me back.

Bleeeeeh! Honestly I don't care about being cool, I have a bit of funk going, if I have to say so myself, (oh gosh did I just say 'funk' - sooooo uncool.) On the real I just want my blog to be out there, I want to get people talking about it, I want people to bookmark it and share it with friends and make reference to the things they see on it or what I say- is that too much to ask?

New beginnings

Hi friends

I have two things to tell you, two very awesome things - which do I start with first? The good news or the good news? Lol. After many conversations with myself and my boyfriend about cutting my hair I finally did it, yes, you heard me, I made friends with the scissor man and took a chunk of what they call a crown, right off and I can say it felt 'guuuuuuuud, real guud.' Ok, I didn't actually cut the hair myself (Thiza, that would be a disaster) my cousin took my little sister and I to a local barber elokshini where she got her hair cut. Honestly I don't think I would have gone through with it if they hadn't come with me.

I'll be honest, seconds after I heard the buzzing sound of the clippers, I wanted to jump out of my chair and  run like Forest. I can still hear the buzzing sound of the clippers in my ear, that sound is enough to scare anybody - makes sense why kids don't like getting their hair cut.

So I put on my brave face and told the barber to go for it, I just wanted to chop off the relaxed hair and leave the natural hair growing underneath that so I can start afresh, my hair was starting to annoy me, moer bezingakhuli, they just stopped growing, so I figured, zindala and mazihambe, they just had to go.

Literally 15min later I was done and looked like a different person, I reminded myself of a 9 year old me, when the 's-curl and ladies cut' ruled my life, thanks to my dear father, who thought both those hairstyles were cooler than cool - arg shame they probably were.

I'm surprised I didn't cry (I'm such a crier) or get emotional, it was such an easy decision to make in the end. You know in those make-over shows where people want to change their look and that requires them cutting their hair? And then when it's time to do so, they ball their eyes out crying? Far from it for mna. Ok, maybe for me it wasn't that deep, afterall my hair only reached my jawline, and it just refused to go beyond that.

I love my short little natural hairs, so cute how they just curl themselves up, such shy little things my natural hair hehehe... Feels so good to know that I won't have to sleep with 'iqhiya'(doekie.) That thing is such a nightmare; how it will constantly wake you up at night because it shifts from the front of your head to the back - I won't get started on eziya ze silk(fake), which just slip off seconds after you've put it on. Relaxed hair is cool  but is  lot of admin sometimes. I will relax my hair again, once my natural hair grows to a length that I'm comfortable with, but for now I want to enjoy the lightness of my head, the emancipation and the comfort of having short hair. I plan on getting it braided soon to fasten the pace yokukhula until I can get it to  that soft cotton-wool- like texture where I can plait it at night before going to bed etc etc.

The other awesome thing I wanted to tell you was that my agency sms'd  about a TV ad audition that I had to go to this morning. The ad is for Liberty life which they've now kept as just 'Liberty' I think they are in the process of re-branding. Anyway I went for the audition before going to work, and there were about fifteen people there gunning for the 3 roles, we all got the scripts on the day so we had to jack those words into our heads for the audition, we were only allowed to use the scripts as a guide (obviously) and guess what I nailed it! I got the gig along with two other guys. Whooop Whoop. Hopefully this opens more doors. Thank you lord.
